My current book is Bedlam’s Edge, edited by Mercedes Lackey and Rosemary Edghill.

It is a collection of short stories by a variety of different authors, set in Lackey’s Bedlam’s Bard universe (which I’ve loved since I encountered it while devouring the Science Fiction collection at the university where I did my undergrad).

Somehow, I’d missed this collection when it was published in 2005 and stumbled on it while testing a new feature in our libraries’ online catalogue. Yay for random discoveries 🙂

The cat and the bat …

I was very impressed by this cat:

Album Spotter

Here’s an interesting little tool, first spotted on Lifehacker.

Album Spotter allows you to upload your iTunes library in XML format. Then, it will present the latest album for each of your artists. If I had had this sooner, I wouldn’t have missed not one, but two, albums by Jessica Rhaye.

On a completely other topic, have you ever noticed that it’s difficult to type with a cat resting his head on the wrist of your dominant hand?

Edit: it sounds really cool and interesting, but isn’t working for me right now.

Edit: working better now. It occurred to me to wonder if there was a Lifehacker equivalent of slashdotting, but apparently the developer identified a major bug that has since been resolved.

Geeky Hobbies

Super Munchkin

Super Munchkin

I just had a super evening, playing Super Munchkin at the Fredericton Science Fiction Society‘s informal Monday night Gathering. We had a blast! We had to finish early as Tingley’s was closing for the evening, but Patricia was definitely in the lead.

My other geeky hobby of late has been customizing my Windows interface. (Lifehacker is a bad influence.) I started off simply patching my uxtheme.dll to use an unsigned Windows theme, but then drifted off into the joys of RocketDock and Rainlendar. Now, I’m running Object Desktop and having a blast.
